ABSTRACT:

483PSP2E.EXE is a collection of post-SP2 client patches for Novell Client 4.83
SP2. These files are NOT a support pack, but are fixes to problems found after
support pack SP2 was released, or which were otherwise not included in SP2.
Note that SP2 is available separate from the 4.83 client, as NC483SP2.EXE, or
bundled with the 4.83 client, as C483SP2E.EXE.

Patch release history:
07Aug2003 - Original Beta Release of 483PSP2E.EXE.
21Aug2003 - Public Release of 483PSP2E.EXE.
27Aug2003 - Readme and other text cleanup - no program files were changed.
10Dec2003 - Readme changed to correct Oplock 2 documentation regarding NSS
volumes.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

== PRE-INSTALLATION ==

1. Apply NC483SP2.EXE before applying this patch. (Or, install SP2 bundled with
the 4.83 client, available as C483SP2E.EXE.)
2. If you are installing on a ZfD4 (or ZfD4 SP1) managed workstation, use the
_483PSP2E_ZFD4.INF file to install this patch. This will not install the
NWGINA.DLL or NWGINAR.DLL from this patch kit. If your workstation is being
managed by ZfD4, "Zenworks For Desktops Management Agent" will appear in the
list of currently installed programs in the Add/Remove Programs window. See TID
10079069 for more information.

== PATCH INSTALLATION ==

1. Expand the self-extracting file 483PSP2E.EXE (this file) to a temporary
folder.
2. Open the folder.
3. (recommended, but optional) Rename the existing files (with a .old
extension, for example) which will be replaced with this patch kit in the
following locations.
  <System_Root>\System32
     DPLMW32.DLL
     LOGINW32.DLL
     NDPPNT.DLL
NWGINA.DLL (do not rename this file if installing on a ZfD4 managed
workstation)
  <System_Root>\System32\netware
     NWDHCP.SYS
     NWDNS.SYS
     NWFILTER.SYS
     NWFINST.EXE
     NWFS.SYS
     NWSLP.SYS
     NWWS2NDS.DLL
     SRVLOC.SYS
   <System_Root>\System32\nls\english
NWGINAR.DLL (do not rename this file if installing on a ZfD4 managed
workstation)
4. Right-Click on _483PSP2E.INF and then click on INSTALL. (Or, if installing
on a ZfD4 managed workstation, right-click on _483PSP2E_ZFD4.INF and then click
on INSTALL.)
5. You will be prompted to reboot. This reboot is required to complete the
installation.

This will copy in the new files. It will also do the following:

1. Install the UNC Path Filter driver (See "UNC Path Filter" in the Issues
section of this document). The driver is installed upon reboot.
2. Create a registry entry enabling the Cache Exclusive Open feature (see issue
#4, under "Fixes to NWFS.SYS," below).
3. Write a registry entry specifying the Novell network provider. Novell has
received reports that this registy is sometimes being overwritten incorrectly.
This can result in slow browsing of network resources. This patch rewrites the
entry, in case it has been changed. The entry is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetwareWorkstation\Network
\Provider\DeviceName and the correct (REG_SZ) value is
\Device\NetWareRedirector"

== OVERLAYING THE NC483SP2.EXE INSTALLATION SET ==

Along with the fixes implemented by installing updated files on to an existing
workstation, this package also contains fixes for conditions that only occur
when running the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000/XP installation program
(SETUPNW.EXE) or the Novell Client 4.83 SP2 installation program (SETUPSP.EXE).
These install-time fixes are provided in the form of files that will update a
Novell Client for Windows NT/2000/XP installation set when the files contained
in this package are overlaid on top of each respective installation set.

Because these particular files and issues only involve install-time actions
taken when running SETUPNW.EXE or SETUPSP.EXE, these particular files are not
installed when applying this patch using _483PSP2E.INF or _483PSP2E_ZFD4.INF.
The installation-related files include OEMNSVNS.INF, NWSETUP.DLL, SETUP2K.INF,
SETUPNT.INF, SETUPNW.EXE, and SETUPW2K.DLL.

Note that the updated .INF files in this package apply only to English versions
of the Novell Client 4.83 SP2 for Windows NT/2000/XP installation set.

The files in this package can be overlaid on top of a Novell Client 4.83 SP2
installation set, such that when SETUPSP.EXE is run to install the SP2 update
you will be installing both SP2 and the updates contained in this package
(except for the UNC Filter Driver).

The files in this package can also be overlaid on top of a Novell Client 4.83
installation set that has already been overlaid with SP2 (such as the "Novell
Client 4.83 including SP2" download from http://download.novell.com/), such
that when SETUPNW.EXE is run to install the Novell client you will be
installing the core 4.83 client, SP2, and the updates contained in this package
(except for the UNC Filter Driver).

To update either type of installation set with all the files in this patch set,
extract this package to a temporary location, then copy the resultant directory
structure to over top of the i386 folder in your "Novell Client 4.83 SP2"
installation set or "Novell Client 4.83 including SP2" installation set.

== OPPORTUNISTIC LOCKING 2 (OPLOCK2) SUPPORT INSTALLATION ==

Note: The server modules included in this patch are intended for use on NetWare
5.1 SP5 or SP6, or NetWare 6.0 SP2 or SP3 servers only. Application to any
other OS version or service pack level is not supported and may not function
properly. If the server modules are not installed and configured, OpLock2 will
not be enabled. These files provide OpLock2 support only for traditional
volumes; enabling support for NSS volumes on NetWare 6.0 requires current
builds of NSS.NLM and related files found in the current NSS patch file on
SUPPORT.NOVELL.COM. See TID 10072567.

Installation of Client module (NWFS.SYS):
NWFS.SYS is the only client module, and this feature has been supported since
NC483SP2. Therefore, aside from applying the file through the .INF installer to
apply the patch (see #13 and #18 under Fixes to NWFS.SYS", below), no further
installation steps are necessary for this module.

Installation of Server modules (NCP.NLM and FILESYS.NLM):

For NetWare file servers running NetWare 5.1 SP5 or SP6, or NetWare 6.0 SP2 or
SP3:
1. Copy the OPLOCK2 folder in this patch kit to a location on the SYS volume.
2. Install via NWCONFIG (enter path to the install.ips file)
3. Set MONITOR | Server Parameters | NCP | Enable Client File Caching to ON.
4. Reboot the server in order to load the new modules.

NOTE:
OpLock support is determined between the server and workstation at the time of
initial connection. If the workstation connects to the server while the server
has client file caching turned off, it will not attempt any file caching (even
though the client may have file caching enabled). Changing the server setting
mid-stream will not produce the desired effect of enabling file caching
immediately. This will only be effective after the workstation reconnects to
the server.

ISSUE:

This collection of Post-4.83 SP2 fixes multiple issues, including the following
(fixes included after 483PSP2D.EXE are marked with an asterisk).

Fixes to DPLMW32.DLL

1. Error: Driver unsuitable for installation during printer driver download.
See TID 10081606 (333796)

2. Error: Insufficient rights for installation during printer driver download.
See TID 10081472 (333416)

Fixes to LOGINW32.DLL

1. When logging in, the name in the NDS username field is different than the
Local username in the Windows tab.

If
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\dontdisplaylastu
sername is set to 1, the name in the NDS username field is the same as the
local username. However, dontdisplaylastusername doesn't display the last
person logged in. Login should display the last user instead of having it get
blanked out. If that user gets changed, then that change needs to be mirrored
down to Windows. This issued is fixed with this LOGINW32.DLL, and can be
enabled with the accompanying registry setting. To enable this during the patch
installation, remove the semicolon from the beginning of the following line in
the [RegSettings] section:
HKLM,SOFTWARE\Novell\Login\Tab Settings\NT Credentials,"Sync NDS
Username",0x00010001,00000000

The other file, NDS-USERNAME-ON.REG, is for your convenience in other
installation models, but is not needed if the _483PSP2E.INF (or
_483PSP2E_ZFD4.EXE) file is modified to enable this feature.

See TID 10083253 (100306535)

*2. Member of Administrator group cannot unlock workstation. (330822)

*3. Incorrect font used for "Password" field by Novell login dialog on 2000 &
XP. (100308503)

*4. Unable to login workstation only to a W2K server with the Novell Client if
the FDN is entered as "administrator@provo.com" where provo is the domain name.
(100273273)

Fixes to NDPPNT.DLL

1. High Utilization after installing NDPS on Citrix XPe. See TID 10084617.
(339127)

Fixes to NWDHCP.SYS

1. Client DHCP option 85 (Preferred Server) is not correctly handled. See TID
10060856. (225804)

2. DHCP information not delivered to Novell login dialog. See TID 10070641.

3. NWDHCP does not deliver multiple IP addresses from option 85 data. See TID
10084580. (100308598)

Fixes to NWDNS.SYS

1. DNS suffix list is not used if the list is too big. A large search list may
exceed the buffer size used to read the registry. This could cause a situation
where none of domain suffixes would be read, or not all would be read. See TID
10083259. (334399, 334425)

2. NWDNS.SYS does not alway try another name server if a name server does not
respond. This problem occurs if a UDP send does not complete during the timeout
interval. See TID 10083260. (100305699)

Fixes to NWFS.SYS

1. Applications get uninstalled by NAL after reconnecting to the network. See
TID 10082193. (335400)

2. Deleting with <SHIFT>+<DEL> Fails. See TID 10076329. (327456)

3. Error: "Access denied," when deleting files off of a NW6 server from an XP
machine. See TID 10081895. (335697)

4. Corrects a problem with slow application performance caused by small data
reads. The fix requires enabling the Cache Exclusive Open feature, done by the
_483PSP2E.INF or _483PSP2E_ZFD4.INF (see the 'installation' section of this
document, above).
This patch includes CACHE_EXCLUSIVE.REG, which is for your convenience in other
installation models, but is not needed if the _483PSP2E.INF or
_483PSP2E_ZFD4.INF file is used to install this patch.

To disable the Cache Exclusive Open feature, simply set the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetwareWorkstation\Paramet
ers\Cache Exclusive Open
to 0 (zero). It is not necessary to revert to an older version of NWFS.SYS.
See TID 10076527. (257424)

5. Drives are mapped to wrong location after applying SP2. (100305958)

6. Send Message broadcasts delivered to all sessions on terminal server.
(100296952)

7. Unable to run EXE's from search drive with a mounted CD on a NetWare 4.2
server. (100305906)

8. Workstation Blue Screen when printing to enterprise print queues - error:
MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS. See TID 10082235. (100305668)

9. CAPTURE ENDCAP renders LPT port unusable on Windows 2000 with 4.83.SP2. See
TID 10082780. (100306233)

scenarios. See TID 10083816 (100307693)

14. "Save As" option of Catia does not work anymore with the Novell Client 4.83
SP x on Windows XP. Error "wrong path or unaccessible" is returned by the
application. See TID 10083800. (339938)

15. Getting Error=failed, no such object (-252) when printing from WinXP. See
TID 10082382. (100305759)

16. Clients recosting IP routes every 6 minutes. This was corrected to that
routes are now recosted every 60 minutes. See TID 10084649. (100308290)

17. Invalid File Handle on user home directory after workstation goes into
suspend. See TID 10083917. (340482)

down to the workstation on Windows 2000. (100300958)

4. Error: "The Logon User Interface DLL NWGINA.DLL failed to load." See TID
10076614. (100303403)

5. Logon to NT4 domain getting logon to the local BDC and also the PDC.
(100305421)

6. Desktop icons disappear after installing the ZfD32SP1 client side patch. See
TID 10080560. (000330092)

7. Added a dialog in DLU to prompt for the NDS password when we detect that
NMAS is installed and that NMAS passed us a random generated password to use
for the NDS password. When NMAS does this it breaks the ability to login local
workstation only once the account has been created. See TID 10082366. (335407)

8. Preserve the local credentials when DLU aborts due to 'manage existing user'
being false, or if DLU receives an error when trying to create or modify the
local account. See TID 10082366. (335407)

9. When using NMAS with DLU, the random password generated by NMAS is too long
for DLU to use when creating a user account on NT4. See TID 10082366. (336511)

*10. SP2 NWgina.dll with workstation manager enabled corrupts IE 6 root
security certificates. See TID 10083629. (100306328)

*11. When the profile file NTuser.dat is renamed to NTuser.MAN, multiple
profiles (.00x) are created. See TID 10085342. (344503)

*12. Windows 2000 SP4 now implements the "CompatibleRUPSecurity" functionality
as previously only Windows XP SP1 did.
(http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10074402.htm). See TID
10074402. (100308810)

Fixes to NWSETUP.DLL

*1. Resolves the "ACU runs continuously when installing NALNTSRV" on Windows
2000. The client "ACU" install runs everytime you login when Setupnw.exe /acu
/u is configured in the login script, because NALNTSRV "MajorVersion and
MinorVersion" in HKLM\Software\Novell\NALNTSRV\CurentVersion is not getting
updated during the install. The version in the registry is 3.1 and version in
the NS.INI is 3.2. See TID 10082046. (100305416)

Once the installation set has been updated with the attached files, selecting
NALNTSRV for installation will correctly write out version information
reflecting "v3.2" in the registry, and a subsequent ACU will also recognize
this version as already being up-to-date and will not want to re-install
NALNTSRV again.

*2. Windows 2000 SP4 now implements the "CompatibleRUPSecurity" functionality
as previously only Windows XP SP1 did.
(http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10074402.htm). See TID
10074402. (100308810)

*3. Facilitates proper installation of NALNTSRV.EXE (ZENworks Application
Launcher service) when running SETUPNW.EXE. See TID 10082046. (100305416)

Fixes to NWSLP.SYS

1. Client fails to connect if the new IP Costing algorithm is enabled (setting
IP Costing to 0 or 1). This problem was caused by prematurely ending the SLP
lookup while an IP costing ping was outstanding. (100306257)

2. Client intermittently fails to login. The error "Tree or server name cannot
be found - would you like to log into NT?" is displayed. See TID 10080035.
(338563)

3. Blue screen due to a buffer initialization failure. (100307996)

4. Corrected an error introduced with the fix for item #3, "Blue screen due to
a buffer..." (100307996)

Fixes to NWWS2NDS.DLL

1. Solves high server utilization problems resulting from workstations
attempting to resolve invalid URLs. See TID 10067796.

Fixes to OEMSVNS.INF

*1. Facilitates proper installation of NALNTSRV.EXE (ZENworks Application
Launcher service) when running SETUPNW.EXE. See TID 10082046. (100305416)

Fixes to SETUP2K.INF and SETUPNT.INF

1. These .INFs force the overwrite of WMPRTNT.DLL, WMGRPPOL.DLL and WUSER32.EXE
even if the version on the machine is newer than what SP2 contains. This
resolves a problem where SETUPSP.EXE will prompt to overwrite these files, due
to a versioning problem with earlier releases.

Fixes to SETUPNW.EXE

*1. DHCP NDS option in Protocol Preferences is disabled after installation. See
TID 10085161. (100309097)

*2. Corrects a Microsoft Windows driver signing policy issue related to
installing the CMD or NWIP virtual network adapters when running SETUPNW.EXE.
See TID 10083500. (100307120, 338395)

Fixes to SETUPW2K.DLL

*1. Corrects a Microsoft Windows driver signing policy issue related to
installing the CMD or NWIP virtual network adapters when running SETUPNW.EXE.
See TID 10083500. (100307120, 338395)

Fixes to SRVLOC.SYS

*1. Blue Screens on HP/Compaq EVO hardware. See TID 10083620. (100307425,
100307077, 336559)

*2. Blue screens with notebook Compaq Evo N610c. (100307077)

*3. Spontaneous rebooting Windows XP SP1 after installing Novell Client 4.83
SP2 Compaq EVO N1000V. (343756)

*4. Tree / server not found when logging in with Client for WinNT/XP v4.83SP2.
(336211)

*5. Drive mappings fail with 4.83SP2. (100307568)

*6. Immediate ctrl-alt-del on bootup and clicking the tree icon gets service
not started error on NT. (343360)

*7. DNS Timeout, due to client sending out invalid requests to the DNS server.
Also requires NWFS.SYS. (100307813)

*8. Login-LGNWNT32.DLL-890: The specified server is unknown. Also requires
NWFS.SYS. (100308640)

*9. NWSLP.SYS is sending out malformed packets. See TID 10085738. (344079)

== Opportunistic Locking ==

The NWFS.SYS in NC483SP2.EXE adds support for Opportunistic Locking type 2
(OpLock2). OpLock2 allows users to open files on traditional NetWare volumes
without placing a lock on the file. The file will not be locked until the user
actually attempts to write to the file. This has resolved performance problems
with Microsoft Office Excel Spreadsheets. For more information about
Opportunistic Locking, see TID 10085899.

NetWare Server Modules (FILESYS.NLM and NCP.NLM)

The FILESYS.NLM and NCP.NLM modules are meant for NetWare 5.1 SP5 or SP6, or
NetWare 6.0 SP2 or SP3 servers.

These files provide OpLock2 support only for traditional volumes; enabling
support for NSS volumes on NetWare 6.0 requires current builds of NSS.NLM and
related files found in the current NSS patch file on SUPPORT.NOVELL.COM. See
TID 10072567.

Fixes to FILESYS.NLM and NCP.NLM (server-side modules)

1. Server is in high utilization when client tries to access a file that
already has a lock on it. See TID 10083208. (338516)

*2. Slow performance with NAI McAfee NetShield if File Caching = on. Requires
the NWFS.SYS included in this patch kit. See TID 10079825. (335903)

NetWare Client Module

OpLock2 support is included in Support Pack 2 for the 4.83 client and beyond.
However, if the server modules are not installed and configured, OpLock2 will
not be enabled.

Support for OpLock2 will not be included with the Novell Client for Windows
95/98.

== Novell Client UNC Path Filter ==

The UNC Path Filter driver (NWFILTER.SYS) filters requests for network
resources. This can eliminate the need to perform time-consuming name resolves,
resulting in increased performance.

The UNC Path Filter is designed to filter open file and query path requests
made by applications searching for network resources. When one of these calls
is made, the UNC Path Filter will ask the Novell Client if it knows about the
server. If the Novell Client has a connection to the server, no further name
resolve is required. If, on the other hand, the Novell Client doesn't have a
connection to the resouce, we pass the request down the chain to other clients
who may be able to service the request. Since the UNC Path Filter simply
searches the Novell Client connection table, it introduces a negligible delay
on requests that require other name resolves.

NOTE: After installing the UNC Path Filter driver, it is no longer possible to
map to a share on a Windows machine running eDirectory (DHOST). During the
attempt to map a drive a password dialog comes up asking for the user
credentials. Even when providing to correct credentials for the NT server, the
workstation keeps prompting for them and they appear to be not valid. After
removing the UNC Path Filter driver from the workstation (or after shutting
down eDirectory on the NT server) it is again possible to map a drive to the
Microsoft share on the NT server.

The UNC Path Filter driver is installed when installing this patch using
_483PSP2E.INF or _483PSP2E_ZFD4.INF. To manually install the driver, run
"NwFInst".

To verify the installation of the UNC Path Filter driver, check for the
existence of the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NwFilter.

To uninstall the UNC Path Filter driver, run "NwFInst -d". \
